Our Processes

K4

SolvonK4 is the latest in cleaning technology, is a very effective cleaner, and is also considered to be environmentally friendly. K4 was developed by Kreussler, the same company that invented wet cleaning and has decades of environmentally sustainable methods of garment cleaning. K4 is a patented non-halogen organic liquid that is non-toxic, biodegradable and poses no risk for ground, water, air or people.

What is K4? K4 is an acetal, which sounds funky to most people but acetals are the basis for all sugar chemistry and are used as flavoring agents in food and they are also used in cosmetics. Everything that produces cellulose, like trees and plants, do so through acetal formation. How to pronounce acetal? Well, think of this saying: “Wearing that lampshade on your head doesn’t make you look like an ass at all.”

EcoSolv

EcoSolv is also a very effective cleaner and considered to be environmentally friendly and very gentle on delicate items. EcoSolv is a non-halogen organic liquid that is non-toxic, biodegradable, odorless and poses no risk for ground, water, air or people.  Sometimes these descriptions sound scary even though we are attempting to tell you how harmless they are!

In laymen's terms, EcoSolv is what is called a hydro-carbon.  One hydrogen atom and one carbon atom.  Simple as that.  Hydro-carbons are very common in our everyday life. Sorry if that brought back nightmares of high school chemistry.  I know my lab partner (Jim Shugart, who is currently a customer) from high school chemistry and I were not thinking of hydro-carbons in Ms. Sancho's class at Rockhurst HS.  Although we probably did put hydro-carbon on our mullets and didn't even know it.

Wet Clean

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Wet Cleaning is the safest professional method of "dry" cleaning. It uses the universal solvent-water-along with special computer - controlled machines such as the ones used by Hangers. The specialized detergents and conditioner used in the Wet Clean process are milder than home laudry products and are safe for most fibers and garments. Even most "dry clean only" garments can be wet cleaned.

In contrast, most dry cleaners use a petroleum-based solvent called perchloroethylene, which can be very hard on fabric. Perc, as it's called, is also classified as a Toxic Air Contaminant, and is carefully regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency, both in how it's used and how it's disposed of.
